Nicolas Cage will play the role of a live-action Spider-Man in the upcoming show "Noir."
An Academy-winning actor is set to star in the show "Noir," an adaptation of the "Spider-Man Noir" comic books, according to a joint announcement from Prime Video and MGM+.
"Noir" will take place in 1930s New York and revolve around a struggling private eye who is compelled to face his former life as the city's sole superhero.
The comic book character, known as "Noir" for short, was created in 2009 and is an alternate version of Spider-Man/Peter Parker.
Cage voiced the character in the Oscar-winning animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
This is Cage's second Marvel superhero character to be featured in a live-action movie. He previously played Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in "Ghost Rider" (2007) and its sequel "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" (2011).
This is Cage's initial TV series regular role.
In December, Cage expressed in an interview with Uproxx his interest in immersive streaming through episodic television. "I have seen things that can be done today with characters and the time they're given to share themselves," he stated. "I may have something to learn in television."
Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, shared her excitement about Cage's involvement in the series. "I'm thrilled to have him star in this unique show. No one else could convey the depth, pain, and tenderness required for this character," said Pope.
