'Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde": A High School Journey Through the '90s'
Reese Witherspoon, known for her role as Elle Woods in the 2001 movie, attended the Prime Video upfront presentation on Tuesday where she announced a prequel series focusing on the character's high school years. Like her character, Witherspoon sported the hot pink skirt and jacket set. During the event, she revealed the prequel series would be titled "Elle".
"I had this crazy idea that the world might want to know the origins of Elle Woods," Witherspoon stated in clips from the presentation. "So, here I am to officially share the most exciting news ever: we're going back to high school with Elle."
Prior to becoming the renowned Harvard Law graduate and Commonwealth of Massachusetts district attorney, Elle was just a typical '90s high school girl, Witherspoon continued. The official synopsis further reveals that the series will showcase Elle navigating life as a teen with her unique personality and sharp intelligence, leading to the character we all fell in love with in the first "Legally Blonde" film.
Witherspoon will assume the role of executive producer for the series.
"Legally Blonde" made its debut in 2001 and follows Elle, a bubbly and fashionable sorority queen determined to win back her college boyfriend Warner (played by Matthew Davis). As Elle progresses in law school, she defies expectations and realizes her personal value. Selma Blair, Luke Wilson, Jennifer Coolidge, Victor Garber, Ali Larter, and Holland Taylor starred in the original movie. A sequel was made in 2003, while a third film is reportedly being co-written by Mindy Kaling.
Availability and casting information for "Elle" remain unannounced.
