"Victoria's Secret" allows angels to fly once more.
Victoria's Secret, known for its infamous catwalk presentations, has been a popular topic of conversation for over 20 years. However, when critics claimed the lingerie show had lost its touch, the brand stopped it in 2018. Now, the event is making a comeback in a revised form.
The well-known label, Victoria's Secret, is planning to bring back its iconic underwear show for fall this year. The last time it was held was in 2018, and it took a break for several years after that. The company was responding to the rising criticism that the lingerie fashion show wasn't diverse enough and didn't resonate with modern times.
After a strategic shift in 2023, the brand presented the "Victoria's Secret World Tour" as a film. Now, the fashion show is set to return to the catwalk, but in a modernized version.
In an Instagram post featuring former "Angel" Candice Swanepoel, the brand announced its return: "We've listened to your comments and feedback. The Victoria's Secret fashion show is making a comeback and will reflect who we are today - while still maintaining everything you know and love: Glamor, runway, wings, musical entertainment and more. Stay tuned...it's only going to get more iconic from here on out."
Prior to the hiatus in 2018, the fashion show was aired on TV screens annually for 23 years. Supermodels flaunted skimpy lingerie as "angels," making the show a successful marketing tool for the label. Many models gained fame through the show, including Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss, and others. It's still undecided which models will bring more diversity to the runway at this year's event.
