The villa featured in the movie "Kevin Alone at Home" is now up for sale.
Millions of people can't imagine celebrating Christmas without watching the iconic movie, "Home Alone." The house featured in the film is now for sale, and with a price tag of $5.25 million USD (about $4.84 million EUR), anyone can become the new owner—if they're okay with a few alterations.
This iconic house can be found at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois. Many German fans recognize it as the "McAllister House." It last sold for $1.585 million USD (nearly $1.46 million EUR) back in 2012, according to CBS. Recently, it underwent significant renovations and expansions. The current owners ensured that the essential rooms and architectural features remained intact, as shared by TMZ.
This property boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The house also features a movie theater where future owners can enjoy watching "Home Alone." There's even a fitness studio with a built-in basketball court, as seen in a video on social media.
The house, as seen in the movie, had a different decor. The filmmakers, which included Chris Columbus, the director, put up Christmas wallpaper to create a festive vibe. Additionally, they built a Christmas tree house that was eventually torn down after filming.
Constructed in the Georgian style in 1920, this house became famous in 1974, featured in a kitchen during the September issue of "Better Homes & Gardens" magazine. However, it gained international recognition in 1990 when it served as a filming location for the blockbuster movie, "Home Alone."
In the film, Kevin (played by Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally left behind by his family just before Christmas. While they're on vacation, he must defend the house against two burglars trying to steal their possessions. "Home Alone" earned over $474 million USD at the box office worldwide, significantly higher than its $16 million USD budget. The film has been an annual holiday staple on TV stations and streaming services since its release. This year, on Christmas Eve, Sat.1 broadcast it, attracting 2.7 million viewers, making it the ratings leader.
The Abendshiens family previously owned the house and allowed the filming to take place while they continued living there. They even chose to hide in their bedroom during filming. In 2012, the Abendshiens sold the house to its current owners. The previous owners rented out the house on Airbnb for one night in 2021. Now, someone can live there permanently for a cool million dollars.
