The top 11 'Saturday Night Live' sketches featuring Beavis and Butt-Head, Sen. Katie Britt, and the Roman Empire from Season 49.
This season on Saturday Night Live was full of big-name cameos, side-splitting sketches, and sassy political impressions. Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig found themselves in the five-time club, while a parody of two Comedy Central cartoon characters left us all in stitches. Take a look at our picks:
"Beavis and Butt-Head"
Even SNL veteran Heidi Gardner couldn't contain her laughter when Mikey Day and host Ryan Gosling transformed into '90s cartoon icons Beavis and Butt-Head in a classic sketch in April. Clips of Gardner breaking character went viral, and Day and Gosling continued the fun by appearing at Gosling's The Fall Guy premiere in their Beavis and Butt-Head outfits.
"I'm Just Pete"
Pete Davidson kicked off Season 49 as host in October and starred in a hilarious sketch parodying the Oscar-nominated "Barbie" song "I'm Just Ken" with his own version called "I'm Just Pete." Davidson sang, "I'm just Pete, my dating life is not discreet," while the cast performed the song's choreography with exaggerated enthusiasm.
"Protective Mom 2"
Pedro Pascal pulled off a surprise appearance in an October sketch with host and musical guest Bad Bunny, portraying cast member Marcello Hernandez's judgmental Spanish-speaking mom who talks down Hernandez's White girlfriend (Chloe Troast) through a humorous half-English-half-Spanish conversation. As moms are known to do, Pascal eventually praises Troast when she encourages Hernandez to eat something.
"Rome Song"
Jason Momoa hosted a November episode and rapped about the viral Roman Empire social media trend in a crazy music video sketch. Suddenly, Momoa appeared on a Roman Colosseum-like set with backup dancers and rapped, "The Roman Empire, ancient Rome. Five times a day it pops into my dome."
"ABBA Christmas"
Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Bowen Yang teamed up as hosts in December to appear in a hilarious sketch resembling a retro paid TV ad that spoofed a fictitious Christmas album by iconic pop group ABBA. The foursome performed classic ABBA songs with a holiday twist, complete with puns and fake almost-accidents that had us all laughing.
Caitlin Clark on "Weekend Update"
Fresh from winning the WNBA championship, WNBA star Caitlin Clark surprised everyone when she made a guest appearance on "Weekend Update" with a few raunchy jokes about the anchor, Michael Che. She even made him read her jokes, proving she's as talented in comedy as she is on the basketball court. She concluded her appearance with a sentimental message thanking WNBA legends who paved the way for her.
"Earthquake and Eclipse" on "Weekend Update"
Kenan Thompson and Marcello Hernandez got everyone laughing uncontrollably when they impersonated a 2024 total solar eclipse and a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in an unforgettable "Weekend Update" bit in April.
"SOTU Cold Open" with Scarlett Johansson as Sen. Katie Britt
As Republican Sen. Katie Britt's 2024 State of the Union rebuttal went viral, everyone wondered who would play her on SNL's that night. Marvel actress (and Mrs. Colin Jost) Scarlett Johansson stole the show when she nailed the impression, quipping, "You see, I'm not just a mother. I'm a wife, a mother, and the craziest b---h in the Target parking lot."
"Airplane Baby"
Adam Driver acting as a cranky baby named "little Eddie" on an airplane, with his adult-sized head on top of a baby's body, was one of the funniest sketches of the season. His mom (Sarah Sherman) didn't seem to mind his disruptive squeals, messy spit-ups, shouts about missing "the womb," or his attempt to stick his entire baby fist in his mouth.
"Hot Ones with Beyonce?é 2"
Imagine if Beyonceé genuinely sat down to eat increasingly spicy hot wings on Hot Ones, the internet's go-to hot wing interview show? Well, Mikey Day and Maya Rudolph tried their best to portray the singular superstar in a "Hot Ones"-inspired sketch this month, with Rudolph reprising her iconic impersonation. Beyonceé's assistant (Kenan Thompson) squirted cooling coco butter lotion into her mouth to calm the heat.
"Bowen's Straight"
December host Adam Driver became a cranky baby, named "little Eddie," aboard an airplane, a sketch filled with cringe-worthy moments, especially when his adult-sized head and fully developed speech scared passengers as he screamed and fussed. Despite his unsettling appearance, his mom (Sarah Sherman) was remarkably unfazed.
Sydney Sweeney shares that she has a tiny crush on “SNL” performer Bowen Yang, who in real life is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. The amusing pre-recorded sketch from March creates a world where Yang is straight. Yang playfully says to Sweeney, "Oh yeah, I'm completely straight," before the duo is shown locking lips in a dressing room. The hilarious scene involves Yang being a total hit with the ladies, only to leave heartbroken Sweeney in the end.
