The significance of Joost Klein's departure on the ESC finale.
A recent occurrence has forced the Eurovision Song Contest to proceed without Dutch performer Joost Klein. This unexpected departure has implications for the culmination of the music event.
Following the expulsion of Dutch competitor Joost Klein from the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), the organizers have decided on how to handle the finale. They announced that "all participants will maintain their place in the official starting order. There will be no song at position 5," from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Due to this removal, the Netherlands will not be eligible to receive any points during the viewer vote on the night of the final. Nevertheless, Dutch viewers can still participate in voting for the grand finale. However, per ESC regulations, they are forbidden to vote for their own country.
The EBU will notify all telecommunication partners concerning the withdrawing of the Netherlands from the event. There are plans to bar lines from accepting votes for song five. The EBU commanded, "We request that no one attempts to vote for Song 5. Any votes cast for Song 5 will not be considered." There exists a likelihood of monetary charges.
A post-semi-final incident on Thursday night sparked a police inquiry, resulting in Klein's disqualification from the competition. The EBU stated, "Swedish police have been inquiring into a complaint from a female stagehand after his performance in the Thursday evening semi-final. In the course of the investigation, it would be ill-advised for him to carry on participating in the contest." The 68th Eurovision Song Contest grand final will now proceed with 25 songs.
Points will be redistributed
Throughout Friday, Klein did not join the two rehearsals for the conclusion. The jury votes were conducted during the second rehearsal as normal, evaluating Klein's performance based on his semi-final appearance. Each country has a jury of five specialists who determine their ratings based on the second conclusion rehearsal. Typically, the jury votes contribute roughly 50% to the ultimate results.
The departure of the Netherlands will also modify some of the previously rendered jury appraisals. The totals will be recalculated, according to the EBU. The Netherlands will also forfeit any points earned this way. The points will advance by one position.
In layman's terms, if the Netherlands placed ninth in a particular country's jury judgment, for instance, the song in tenth position is now ranked ninth, and the song in eleventh position is now in tenth place. The points will be redistributed according to this. The result of the Dutch jury concerning the 25 participating countries is still valid. The Netherlands will not appear in the scoreboard for the final.
