Following a risky surgery on his esophagus, German actor Heinz Hoenig faces more treatments in the future, according to his wife Annika. Recovering in the hospital, Hoenig has been stable since waking up from anesthesia, but a decision on his next operation of the aorta is yet to be made. To ensure proper care, he must be strong enough for surgery.

His recovery was discussed on RTL, where Kärsten-Hoenig mentioned additional expenses, such as uninsured medical costs, totaling about half a million euros. Consequently, they're seeking additional donations from fans and peers. With over 162,000 euros donated on gofundme, his loved ones launched a campaign to raise the amount to 500,000 euros through "Siegelring" agency.

Raising the donation target is justified with "further, very costly medical interventions." So far, they've spent around 170,000 euros, with the oesophagus removal being a significant expense. The aorta operation alone costs approximately 120,000 euros. Finally, the couple also needs to account for subsequent care.

Media reported in early May that the 72-year-old actor needed surgery due to a damaged stent in his heart and his aorta needing replacement. The operation was successful, but there's also a hole in his esophagus.

Insufficient Insurance Coverage

Annika mentioned that Heinz Hoenig had been refused admission to statutory health insurance due to not meeting the requirements in an RTL show. She further stated he could no longer afford his health insurance payments over 55 years of age. This procedure made it challenging to rejoin the insurance system.

His management confirmed he'd stopped paying for health insurance due to insufficient work. As a result, Hoenig's health insurance is limited. He's been in numerous TV roles, including "Das Boot" and various 1990s television series by director Dieter Wedel like "Der große Bellheim," "Der Schattenmann," and "Der König von St. Pauli." Hoenig was also a contestant on RTL's jungle camp in Australia recently.

The story has since garnered attention on news outlets to promote awareness and donations for their medical expenses. Donations are crucial to help Hoenig's family with ongoing treatments and aftercare.
