The EM tracks will fuel soccer passion.

In a mere four weeks, the German national soccer team's European Championship journey will commence. The public is already eager for what may hopefully be a successful and harmonious summer of soccer. The EM songs will also impart much optimism, which the country could certainly benefit from at present.

Mark Forster - "When You Call Me"

The authorized ARD song comes from soccer fan Forster, who had been part of television coverage in 2016 with "We Are Big" (for ZDF). In that year, the German team reached the semifinals. "That's likely why ARD chose me, so we wouldn't be eliminated in the preliminary round again," jokes the pop artist adorned with a baseball cap.

Bringing out the big guns towards the end of this entertaining radio earworm, Forster entwines brass band with a children's choir. The song depicts deep relationships between individuals, lovers, or friends, a country, or a soccer team, leaving it purposely unspecified. "I'm always there when you call me. As long as we're together, everything will be okay." Although a bit ordinary, these words serve as an oath to a united summer.

The most fitting soccer line: "Some dreams come true... and sometimes, unfortunately, nothing works."

Province - "You Believe"

The euphoric single by the indie rock group from Upper Swabia (Was uns High macht) is gearing up for the European Championship race on behalf of ZDF, likely featuring the highest sing-along potential and best encapsulating the excitement of a joyous summer. "Do you believe in me? I believe in you. We've been absent for far too long. Welcome home," sings the chorus, set against a pop guitar track.

The song is about enduring steadfast friendships, "nostalgia on the streets," a great deal of enthusiasm ("Jump on lanterns, we're in a fever"), and a bit about the love of soccer ("Childhood, football pitch, all the kids are going out. Panini booklets sold out").

The most fitting soccer line: "And if my legs don't carry me, then you'll run double for me."

Tim Bendzko - "Come On"

Pop singer Tim Bendzko, who played for Union Berlin in his youth, knows quite a bit about sports songs. His single "Hoch" became the anthem for the German Olympic team at the 2021 Beijing Games. "Komm schon" is the next motivational boost that Magenta TV utilizes for its European Championship reports. "I know from many Olympic athletes that they push each other by shouting 'Come on.' With this song, I attempt to provide the final musical push," asserts Bendzko.

And why not in soccer? "Now is the moment. The moment you've been living for. It won't be easy. It doesn't all happen by itself. Come on!" These lines could have been pulled straight from a motivational speech by national coach Julian Nagelsmann. "Come On" is thus clearly the song with the most athletic context among the Euro 2024 songs.

The most fitting soccer line: "Come on!"

Meduza, OneRepublic, Leony - "Fire"

The official UEFA song is a collaborated effort - from the Italian EDM trio Meduza ("Bad Memories"), the German singer Leony ("Remedy"), and the band OneRepublic ("Apologize"), who hail from the United States, albeit quite distant from Europe.

Leony expressed her enthusiasm over the European Championship nomination: "It was a massive deal for me, of course also because I hail from a soccer-crazed family." Nevertheless, the song appears to be more of an assemblage of generic lyrics. "We're on fire tonight. Like a million diamonds in the sky," croons the electronic pop track. In other words: "We're on fire. Like a million diamonds glimmer in the sky."

The most fitting soccer line: "Whoa-oh, oh-oh."

The official UEFA Euro 2024 anthem is a collaboration between Meduza, OneRepublic, and Leony, with Leony expressing her excitement due to her soccer-crazed family background. During the tournament, fans can expect to see performances of the catchy electronic pop track "Fire," which features the lyrics, "We're on fire tonight. Like a million diamonds in the sky."

As the excitement for the European Football Championship 2024 grows, German television channels are planning to incorporate songs that capture the passion and enthusiasm surrounding the event. For instance, the German Democratic Republic (ARD) has chosen popular pop artist Mark Forster to produce the authorized EM song, which aims to unite the listeners as the German team embarks on its European Championship journey.

During the summer of 2024, football fans across Europe can look forward to a variety of entertaining and uplifting songs that will complement their passion for soccer. From upbeat pop tracks like Forster's "When You Call Me," to the indie rock anthem "You Believe" by the Swabian band Province, to Tim Bendzko's "Come On," each song will offer a unique take on the emotions and experiences that come with being a soccer fan.
