Dylan Minnette, the leading actor of the series, is in focus. - The cause behind his hiatus from acting
In 2017, Dylan Minnette obtained global fame as an actor through his performance as Clay Jensen in the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why." Yet, he's no longer actively pursuing a career in acting. He recently disclosed the cause of his sabbatical from acting and his present focus on a musical career with his band Wallows in a podcast interview with Zach Sang.
"I was fortunate to have success as an actor," Minnette shared in the podcast episode, with his bandmates Braeden Lemasters (28) and Cole Preston (27) joining him as well. "I was in '13 Reasons Why,' which was popular, and I undoubtedly reached the height of my acting career. However, it also began to feel like a job." Despite it having always been enjoyable and motivating, it ultimately turned into mere work.
Dylan Minnette prefers music
Along with his bandmates, Minnette had always envisioned "going as far as we can with music." Therefore, his acting career is currently on pause: "The only way that's possible is if I dedicate 100% of my time and energy to music, take it seriously, and demonstrate to the world that we take it seriously." He's just following his passion for music, "which feels natural and inspiring at the moment."
Minnette highlighted in the podcast that he's still contemplating a return to acting at some point. Last year, he aimed to put more focus on his acting career, but coincidentally, the actors' strikes in Hollywood occurred during that time. He feels like he's gradually regaining motivation as an actor: "Someday, when we've accomplished our Wallows responsibilities and we're all prepared to take a break as a band, I'll have the perfect motivation to do something again."
