Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Gayle King expresses her surprise at the discovery and shares Oprah's encouraging words.
On "CBS Mornings," the co-anchor unexpectedly learned she's on the cover of Sports Illustrated through a chat with models Kate Upton and Hunter McGrady. Upton presented King with a magazine featuring her on the cover. "I'm on the cover?" King, shocked, asked. She expected only to appear inside.
McGrady commented, "Sexy isn't an age." She praised King's appearance, adding, "You’re so inspiring to women of all ages. Yes girl, you did that," further complimenting her look.
King admitted, "I just never saw myself this way." Still self-conscious, she then said, "But when I look at that...I go, I look damn good."
King recounted to "Entertainment Tonight" that her friend, Oprah Winfrey, encouraged her to take on this project. "Oprah said, ‘You and I have two different ideas of fun. You would enjoy that.’ I said, 'I do, I do.' She continued, "But she said, ‘It’s so you, you should go for it.' And I do feel it’s going for it."
The issue being celebrated is the 60th anniversary of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Together with Upton, McGrady, and Chrissy Teigen, King is among the chosen cover models. #
