A famous tree that was illegally cut down in North England is going to have its first offspring presented to King Charles III. This mountain ash tree, estimated to be around 200 years old, was a popular photo spot and was even featured in the movie "Robin Hood - King of Thieves" with Kevin Costner. When news broke out that vandals had chopped it down in the fall, there was an uproar from the public.

The sapling will be planted in the Windsor park, as the royal family announced on their Instagram. The wind will help in spreading its seeds over time.

"Trees have a special ability to connect with and comfort people through their strength and hope," stated the palace. "Rooted in the present, they are growing into the future, carrying their seed into the unknown."

The majestic mountain ash tree, commonly known as the Sycamore Tree, stood in a hole or depression - what is called the Sycamore Gap. It was cut down in September 2023. When the tree fell, it fell on Hadrian's Wall, an ancient wall built by the Romans in the second century AD for defense and trade.

"The strong emotions we witnessed after this mountain ash tree was cut down demonstrate how deeply connected we are to our natural heritage," said the National Trust, a nature and heritage protection organization. So far, there are more than 100 saplings and 40 cuttings of this tree, thanks to the efforts of experts. Last week, actress Judi Dench presented a sapling at the Chelsea Flower Show.
