Years ago, Sharon Stone was a prominent global star. Following a stroke in 2001, however, at 66, she continues her battle to regain her former career. The actress gained prominence after her international breakthrough in Paul Verhoeven's "Basic Instinct" during the early '90s. Stone spoke candidly about her current struggle in an interview with The Times.

"I still haven't been able to get my acting career back," Stone expressed in the interview. "I'd love to work as an actress again," she added, emphasizing she doesn't aim for "meek, supporting, lousy roles." Therefore, she wishes to star in roles that she truly deserves and can perform. In essence, she hopes to reclaim her real career. "I'd really like my life back," she said.

It took Stone seven years to recover from a stroke and brain hemorrhage in 2001. The aftermath of her ordeal is evident in her career even now. The incident wasn't a comeback story; she simply survived.

Pushed Aside

In a past interview with Variety (2019), Stone shed light on the severity of a stroke for women and the challenges in recovery, stating "I don't think anyone realizes how dangerous a stroke is for women and what it takes to recover from it - it took me about seven years." During this period, she lost everything from her professional and personal life due to her recovery. Where once she graced the big screen as one of the "hottest movie stars," post-stroke, she was essentially forgotten.

In her autobiography "The Beauty of Living Twice," Stone provided in-depth details on the harrowing events leading to her brain hemorrhage. Additionally, she disclosed her struggles with nine miscarriages, lightning strike survivorship during her teenage years, and a recently removed benign tumor on her uterus.
