Ryan Phillippe, aged 49, posted a picture of himself and his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon, aged 48, on his Instagram stories. "It was a hot and sweaty time in the late '90s with the one and only @reesewitherspoon (honestly, a cooler time than today)", the actor captioned his post.

The old photo shows the former couple snuggled up to each other. Reese can be seen wearing a black-and-white striped dress with a narrow neckline and a bow, along with a chin-length bob hairstyle. Ryan appears with a Mohawk haircut and a three-day beard, a blue-and-white striped sleeveless shirt, black pants, and dark sunglasses.

A moment from the past

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon reportedly met at a party for her 21st birthday in 1997 and played the lead roles with Selma Blair, aged 51, in "Cruel Intentions" shortly after. They married in 1999 only six months after their engagement. The duo was married for nine years and had two kids, a daughter named Ava, 24, and a son Deacon, 20. Eventually, they divorced in October 2006, continuing to co-parent their children.

Phillippe disclosed in an interview with "W Magazine" that the divorce was the "darkest, saddest place I've ever been." He didn't leave his bed for four or five months and stated it was "the worst time of my life."

After splitting with Ryan, Reese married Jim Toth, aged 53, in 2011 and had a son named Tennessee, 11. In March 2023, they announced their separation. Phillippe hasn't remarried but has a daughter, Kai, 12, with his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp, aged 34. The former couple had rose to glory in Hollywood during the late '90s, a different time than the present. This snapshot reminds fans of the simple yet fond moments of an earlier era.
