Sylt - Revisiting a German Isle's Charms - Pony handlers release a video discussing racial incidents, with allegations of more occurrences.
A viral video from a club in Kampen, Sylt, has sparked outrage as partygoers can be heard singing xenophobic slurs to the tune of the 90's techno song "L'Amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino. The club operators have come under fire for the incident, claiming they were unaware of it. However, many have questioned this claim. In response, the Pony Club has released a statement on Instagram, along with a video from a different angle of the incident, seemingly taken from an outdoor camera at the club. The statement reads: "To all those asking, 'Didn't anyone notice that?' You can see for yourselves that the majority in the video are having fun, while a small group is chanting something incompatible with our core values."
While this controversy rages on, more reports of racial incidents are surfacing from the island of Sylt at Pentecost. The "Hamburger Abendblatt" newspaper reports that another club, the Rote Kliff in Kampen, also faced a similar incident, with an "unknown, small number of guests singing along to the racist slogans" when "L'Amour toujours" was being played. The club has already identified and removed one person from the premises, banning them.
In addition, a young black woman claimed she was verbally and physically attacked by white guests in another restaurant. Video footage of the incident is currently circulating online, although the restaurant has not yet issued a statement about it.
In response to these events, many residents of Sylt are planning a vigil on the infamous "Whisky Mile" in Kampen this Sunday to show their opposition to right-wing extremism.
