Maxima pets a cow

During their reign as king and queen, Willem-Alexander and Máxima face various responsibilities. On occasion, this involves a trip to the countryside. However, they do so with grace and sophistication.

Dressed in a pink embroidered sheath dress, a large pearl necklace, mid-brown pumps, and a coordinating fascinator, Queen Máxima went to visit farmers in Stedum, located in the northern province of Groningen, Netherlands. Her husband, King Willem-Alexander, accompanied her. The 57-year-old monarch opted for a dark blue suit.

The scene of a queen in a cowshed may seem out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, Máxima, originally from Argentina, exuded her trademark elegance in this non-glamorous location. On the royal Instagram page, a picture of the 52-year-old Queen stroking a cow was captioned, "What does the future of agriculture in the region hold? King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will discuss this with farmers from the municipalities of the Eems Delta and Hogeland."

Strolling in Sneakers

The royal couple also paid a visit to shrimp fishermen, shook hands, received flowers, and were presented with an oversized golden city key in De Tirrel. For her walk on the meadows along the Ems Delta, the Queen switched to beige sneakers.

The palace shared more pictures of the royal couple on Instagram and provided an update: "The visit to the region culminated in a visit to the largest village in Het Hogeland: Bedum. Like Winsum, the village boasts a listed townscape defined by the Walfridus Church's distinctive tower. This tower leans 4.2 degrees, making it more tilted than the Tower of Pisa."

King Willem-Alexander ascended the Dutch throne in 2013, following the voluntary abdication of his mother, Beatrix. In 1999, he encountered Máxima, whom he married three years later. The couple have three daughters - Amalia (20), Alexia (18), and Ariane (17).
