Matthias Reim announces his departure from "Fernsehgarten."

In "Fernsehgarten," ZDF showcases music, creativity, and service-related matters on Sundays. Matthias Reim, however, doesn't want to participate in this program any longer. He doesn't need the high-reach platform "Fernsehgarten" provides for him.

ZDF's "Fernsehgarten" may see a decrease in popular music performers. Matthias Reim, a well-known pop star, has decided not to appear on the Sunday morning show anymore. "I have other options for showcasing my songs and what they mean to me," Reim told t-online. "I don't want to perform among 'cooking shows' and 'acrobats' in bright sunlight," he added.

It's not about the money, he says, but the promotion. "I'm not at a point in my career where I depend on this," Reim explained. The show offers performers an expense allowance of €750 and a massive audience, but that's not enough for Reim anymore.

Matthias Reim shared his appreciation for host Andrea Kiewel, calling her "wonderful, warm, and loving." Kiewel herself expressed regret at Reim's departure: "It's really sad," she said. "I've always admired both Roland Kaiser and Matthias Reim. I can sing along to all their songs." Kaiser has also not appeared on the show since 2016.

Roberto Blanco also announced his departure from the "Fernsehgarten." And while Reim's decision focused on promotion, Blanco's was financial. "I'm no longer part of the show because they wanted to alter the contracts I had in place. I didn't want that. If they're not willing to pay me, I won't return."

ZDF promotes "Fernsehgarten" as the "Sunday morning assurance of good cheer," a long-running outdoor event series dating back to 1986. In 2023, the series attracted an average of 1.69 million viewers each episode. This is a slight decrease compared to 2022's 19 episodes, which averaged 1.95 million viewers and 18.5 percent market share.
