Lena Meyer-Landrut: A Popular German Singer - LP depicted as a "return to self"
Lena Meyer-Landrut, aged 33, is excited about the release of her sixth studio album titled "Loyal to Myself", which drops on May 31st. This follows her previous album "Only Love, L" from 2019. When asked about the success of her album, the singer-songwriter responded, "For me, the album is successful if I'm satisfied with it." She further clarified that she's no longer concerned with factors such as chart positions or the number of listeners.
The Eurovision Song Contest winner from 2010 considers "Loyal to Myself" and the 17 songs on the album a part of her personal growth. In a video documentary, Meyer-Landrut describes it as a "journey back to myself." The album is based on the motto: "More authentic. More me. Back to me. Less pressure. More fun." The singer acknowledges the struggles she's faced with self-doubt and insecurity, stating that she's been on an emotional tightrope between "what am I really" and "what am I for the wrong reasons."
She finally finds herself questioning if she has to alter her music, language, or appearance to fit societal expectations. "I don't understand the world, I don't understand the rules, yet I have to swim along," she says, admitting that self-doubt and insecurity are constant companions. Meyer-Landrut has been learning to cope with the pressure and maintains that she's grown more relaxed and less prone to anger or upset.
Opening up about her struggles with depression in a "Spiegel" interview in May, she talked about her years in therapy and how she's managed to deal with the constant scrutiny. Lena expressed that she is now "on a good path" and hopes to create a healthier relationship with social media commentary.
In the title track "Loyal to Myself", she sings, "I am loyal to myself now, wanting to know myself. A little better now that I am my true self. I am loyal to myself now, because I have potential. I have improved, and I must be my true self."
As part of her newfound courage, Meyer-Landrut ditched her original album plan, stating, "I could have regretted something that I didn't feel a hundred percent about or didn't fully stand behind." She explained in the documentary "Making Loyal" that she couldn't portray consistency while being a part of the constantly evolving world.
With her newfound confidence, Lena is hitting the road this summer for a tour. Her first performance will be on June 10th in Hamburg. The tour will take her across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium.
Sharing her thoughts on the whole experience, Lena said, "I couldn't be constant when everything is in a constant state, and I'm part of that state. I couldn't do it. I think that's okay, though, because I can't always do everything. I think I've already achieved a lot, but it's not this time. I'm sincere and honest, and that's worth a lot. Who knows, maybe it will be different at the next album."
Lena Meyer-Landrut no longer needs to please others; instead, she's learned to trust her instincts. Her confidence likely comes from the realization that she must take responsibility for the person she wants to be and her genuine willingness to be vulnerable. This newfound vulnerability allows her to deeply connect with her fans, as she shares her journey with them through her music.
The adventurous journey toward self-acceptance, musical experimentation, and personal growth is evident in her music, making the album release all the more exciting. Meyer-Landrut is not afraid to make changes or ditch the plan, jumping fearlessly into the next stage of her artistic career. Not only fans, but the whole music industry should keep a keen eye on this phenomenal artist.
This summer's tour will be a chance for Lena to display her newfound boldness. With a fresh sound and a newfound purpose, Lena anticipates the future with excitement and courage. The future of Lena's music career may be unpredictable, but she is determined to stay true to herself. "I am loyal to myself now," after all.
