Loreen expresses her desire not to be commemorated.

In 2023, Loreen of Sweden will create history at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). During the grand finale, she'll share a new track titled "Freedom." Before the big event, Loreen connects with ntv.de for a chat about our energy, love, and the moment when she'll swim in this competition for the third time.

ntv.de: It's been a year since you created history at the ESC with your song "Tattoo"—the first female double victor. How did this impact you?

Loreen: Wow, it had such a profound effect on me. It was so healing and a massive blessing. You see, we all create these moments with our teams, but it's not complete unless others connect with it. When I won, the atmosphere around me was packed with love—something I've never experienced before. It wasn't about ego, but an illustration of our unity. That feeling of love was truly incredible!

Have you noticed a difference between winning in Liverpool and your first ESC victory with "Euphoria" in 2012?

Most definitely, these two experiences were strikingly different. "Euphoria" had a mysterious aura to it, not just the performance, but it truly reflected who I was at that point in my life. It was the first time I expected nothing but listened to my inner voice. The second time, eleven years later, I'd navigated through highs and lows, fell in love, suffered pain, fought battles, and made countless compromises... which led me to the point of "Tattoo."

What's the key distinction?

All I truly trust is myself and my intuition. This isn't a cerebral process; it comes from deep within. "Tattoo" feels light, open, vulnerable, displaying love and emotions uninhibited by fear. That's what changed over those eleven years.

Given Sweden's deep pride for its two-time ESC winner, have they named a street or monument in your honor?

chuckles No one needs that. Let's not barrier ourselves with our own creations. Born, live, die—who cares about it, in the end? I'm more fascinated by two things: creativity and connection. Life's short; it vanishes quickly. Ponder this: what do you want to cherish forever? What's the value of money?

This year, Sweden's Marcus & Martinus represent them in the ESC. Are they your faves or do you love others?

smiles Oh, that's a tricky one. laughs Let's say this: I favor artists who effortlessly blend their creative visions without sacrificing any elements. I see it in Marcus & Martinus' performance and also Olly Alexander's English submission. It's quite bold and captivating; it truly makes a statement. But there's something else that fascinates me during this contest.

Another element for you?

The ESC signifies something more profound than a mere competition. We're a massive, worldwide community, one hugely connected entity. When we share the energy of laughter, smiles, excitement, and hope, we store it like a powerful battery. It's an incredible force, much-needed amidst the chaos in the world.

Why didn't you team up with Johnny Logan to perform "Euphoria" together in the semi-finals?

laughs You'd like to know why I didn't imagine a "Euphoria" duet with the legendary Logan? Well, I've been diligently working on my upcoming performance in the Grande Finale. You'll be surprised and captivated by my act! laughs

We know you'll be singing "Freedom" in the ESC's final. Can you provide a sneak peek?

"Freedom" is the continuation of "Tattoo." It's the final chapter in this journey, which shuts the door on life's complexities—betrayal, pain, challenges. Eventually, you comprehend that love is the single, most significant element. It's not a cliche; love is an energy, a choicemade consciously. This is the message I intend to convey through my spectacle.

A duet with Johnny Logan never took place. But in recent months, Loreen actually performed with Helene Fischer in the "Helene Fischer Show." How was that for her?

She's a force to be reckoned with - confident and visionary. As a strong woman, it's refreshing to encounter another strong woman. At the same time, she's kind and friendly - characteristics Loreen admires. Seeing two powerful women connect is, in her words, "sexy." The performance was enjoyable, and there was a genuine connection between them. After all, Loreen only invests her time and energy in things that matter.

Besides "Tattoo" and "Freedom," Loreen has released other songs like "Is it Love?" and "Neon Lights" recently. She should already have a new album out by now ...

Yes, she acknowledges that her new album has been a long time coming. However, it will be released during her next tour. At present, she has plenty of material and is unsure if all the songs mentioned, such as "Tattoo" and "Freedom," will make the final cut. She's just fine-tuning the album to ensure it's nothing short of amazing.

Loreen's next tour is set to begin in early 2025. Previously, she's had a successful run of sold-out shows in Germany. She's returning to Germany for three performances. What can fans anticipate?

Fans can expect Loreen herself! Her live performances are all about creating a connection. Loreen wants to create a welcoming environment where everyone realizes their significance. Her shows aim to bring people together, facilitate meaningful conversations, and leave fans feeling alive. As for the details, viewers can anticipate a captivating visual experience, a musical drama, and potentially a few tearful moments. Expect the unexpected, from inspiring tunes to perhaps a few dull songs.

The only unanswered question is when Loreen might participate in the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time - or if she's closed the door on it forever.

She once noted that with "Euphoria," she had crossed that off her list. But as the past year has shown, she can't control the course of events. She summed it up by saying, "It could be. If there's not just one song and the right opportunity, but if my gut feeling tells me, 'Hello, Eurovision, how's it going?' " Whether she wins or loses, it really doesn't matter.
