Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner and his wife Franca Lehfeldt posted a photo together from the island of Sylt at the start of the new year. "A happy, healthy and lively New Year everyone!", Lehfeldt wrote next to the photo that she and the FDP federal chairman posted on Instagram.
In the picture, both are wrapped up in thick jackets and holding each other in their arms while smiling at the camera. You can see dunes and the sea in the background. Lehfeldt and the Federal Minister of Finance rarely share private photos. The couple got married on Sylt in the summer of 2022.
Many users join in the New Year's greetings in the comments. Presenter Birgit Schrowange, for example, wrote: "Happy new year, all the best to you." Others, however, could not resist expressing their political views in addition to the picture, for example by calling for "new elections for the new year" or recommending that Lindner leave the governing coalition with the Liberals.
However, now that FDP members have just spoken out against an end to the traffic light alliance in a survey, Lindner is unlikely to change his mind for the time being. His wife, on the other hand, recently made a fresh start after leaving the news channel "Welt TV" at the end of October. Since then, she has been working as a freelance journalist.
In mid-December, the 34-year-old announced that she had found her first job. In future, she will be responsible for "communication and marketing" for dressage rider Isabell Werth. But for now, she and her husband have obviously been enjoying their time together on Sylt.
