There was an occurrence at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival that demanded the use of a distinctive police unit, according to the industry publication "Variety."

The magazine disclosed that local law enforcement temporarily closed off a portion of the Croisette and the entryway to the Palais. The festival's communication bureau confirmed to "Variety" that a peculiar item had surfaced in the street, but not within it. Allegedly, a specific police squad investigated a rucksack in response. Nevertheless, the area surrounding the canal and the Palais reopened shortly afterward.

"It was not a bomb"

"Variety" shares the words of an individual working at an information booth, who stated, "There was something they thought was a bomb, but it wasn't a bomb." A woman from the festival's security team echoed the sentiment, saying, "It was an error," however, she refused to elaborate on the event. Following reports of the finding being on municipal property, the festival transferred blame to the local police. They decided not to comment on the incident.

As it took place, multiple venues inside the Palais were hosting performances. Nonetheless, festival security personnel felt there was need to evacuate one of the theatres. Neverthess, a heightened sense of security is prevalent in Cannes during the festival to safeguard the multitude of attendees and celebrities from peril.

Established in 1946, the Cannes International Film Festival is renowned as one of the premiere cinematography festivals worldwide. The 2024 conference spans from May 3 to May 25.
