Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau playing mothers in 'Babes' draws from their personal experiences.

The racy comedy about two long-time friends dealing with unexpected pregnancies is a perfect fit for the real-life actresses who've known each other since their early days of stand-up comedy.

Is it more or less difficult to play roles that somewhat resemble their personal lives? According to Glazer, a "Broad City" star, it's both.

"I'd say it's easier," Glazer shared with CNN. "Much easier."

"Easier to play because you understand the feeling of tiredness, the confusion, the frustration, and the relief of pumping and dumping (breastmilk), and having a drink when you're not with your kids," added Buteau. "And yet, it's also harder because you're not with your kids."

This movie, which has been compared to "Bridesmaids," is a funny and heartfelt exploration of the friendship bonds and the messy challenges of growing up and becoming a parent. Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz, a producer and actor, wrote the screenplay together after their hit TV show "Broad City."

Both actresses, who have a dedicated fanbase, also appear in other hit shows. Buteau stars in Netflix's "Survival of the Thickest," an extension of her book of the same title.

Comedy is definitely in the air with these two funny actresses paired up, along with other stars like Hasan Minhaj, Oliver Platt, and John Carroll Lynch. The film's set was filled with lots of laughter, as Buteau recalled, "We were all cracking up so hard that my co-writer Josh Rabinowitz hit his head on his chair and injured his forehead."

Shooting in 25 days with Buteau only able to participate for 15 days, added to the tension and hilarity, Glazer confirmed that many of these funny moments will be included as bonus features in streaming.

Director Pamela Adlon, famous for her lead role in "Better Things," described the process as challenging given the tight schedule. However, the script's emotional aspect was what won her over.

"I read it and it was both emotional and comedic," Adlon told CNN. "It had to have the dark parts, the funny parts, and the heart-tugging moments that make you feel - laugh, cry, and think."

Glazer can rest assured knowing that Rabinowitz, herself, and their producer Susie Fox took inspiration from their real-life parenting experiences to create a relatable script with the right balance of humor and heart.

"It was crucial for us to make a script that's really funny but also full of emotion," she said.

"Babes" hits theaters on Friday.
