Ikke Hüftgold considers it "past due"
Ikke Hüftgold, renowned entertainer and creator of hits such as "Alle blau," welcomes the recent ban on public drinking in Mallorca's party zones. "This is a much-needed step," says the 47-year-old artist in an interview with "t-online." With a compassionate tone, the singer admits he has "a great deal of understanding" for the measure.
It seems some people may disagree with the decision to curb alcohol consumption in public spaces, but not Ikke Hüftgold. The "Ballermann" star believes it's high time to stop the chaos caused by those who can't handle their booze. "There are just too many drunken idiots," he says, "leaving altercations, leaving behind a mess, and in some cases, tragedy."
He acknowledges that some level of regulation in nightlife hotspots is necessary. "It's not about making life unbearable," says Hüftgold. "It's about setting limits so everyone can enjoy themselves responsibly."
The amount of drunkenness and disorder outside of clubs and bars has become a significant issue for Mallorca's residents, he adds. "The beaches, promenades, and streets of the island look like they've been trampled on by a herd of pigs," describing the situation as appalling. "It's not just drunken debauchery anymore, but out-of-control alcohol abuse."
Customs of "Ballermann" come with penalties
As of May 11, public drinking of alcohol in the party zones of Mallorca and Ibiza is officially prohibited, with potential fines up to 1500 euros. While public drinking was already prohibited for some time in groups, the law was seldom enforced earlier.
Ikke Hüftgold, famous for his party anthems like "Schon wieder besoffen" and "Berufsalkoholiker," has expressed his concerns over alcohol abuse in his music. As a "satirical artist," his music often touches on alcohol consumption.
