Lily Allen Admits Something - Husband David Harbour glances at her cell phone.
Some couples might find this odd, but for Lily Allen (39), it's a conscious choice: In a recent chat with "The Sunday Times," the singer revealed that her husband, David Harbour (49), manages her smartphone usage. Allen believes that constant use of smartphones in everyday life hinders her creativity as an artist.
In the discussion with "The Sunday Times" and her friend Miquita Oliver (40), Allen mentioned, "My creative side of my brain has taken a hit from my smartphone. It feels like everyone is the same." She claims to not know anyone who's benefitted from smartphone usage in terms of quality of life. "I find it tragic that they're designed to be addictive," Allen added.
Lily Allen & David Harbour team up to beat the smartphone addiction
With this belief, Lily Allen and David Harbour apparently took a joint step to safeguard themselves from the negative impact of smartphones on their lives. "Now I use a kids' phone called Pinwheel. It's got no access to surfing or social media, but Uber and Spotify function. My husband oversees the phone, controlling which apps I can download. In exchange, I monitor his phone," she shared in the interview lightheartedly, "What's your kid's name? David, 50 years old."
Moreover, Allen removed smartphones from her two daughters, Ethel (12) and Marnie (11), who are from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper (46). A book she read suggested preventing kids from using them before they're 14.
Since mid-March, Lily Allen and British TV presenter Miquita Oliver have been streaming new episodes of their podcast "Miss Me?" twice a week. The duo talks about sensitive subjects in this show, either from their homes in Brooklyn or London. Their conversations often find a place in the British podcast charts' top ten.
Miquita Oliver praises David Harbour in the "Times" interview, "He makes her laugh. Lily enjoys a good giggle. From the moment I met him, I liked his energy. He's kind, and he truly loves her." Allen and "Stranger Things" star Harbour tied the knot in September 2020.
