Heinz Hoenig makes another appearance
Following his surgery on his esophagus, Heinz Hoenig is making progress towards recovery. Upon waking up from the anesthetic, the acting veteran can once again communicate. However, the most challenging part of his journey lies ahead, as he's only 72 years old.
Four days have elapsed since Hoenig underwent the esophagus operation on a Monday. These days have been filled with optimism and concern, as it was difficult to estimate how well he would adapt to the procedure. According to a statement by his management, however, the operation "is progressing well so far."
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the actor had regained consciousness but was in a delicate phase. Recent reports suggest a brighter outlook for Hoenig, according to his wife, Annika Kärsten-Hoenig.
Kärsten-Hoenig shared more details with RTL, indicating that her husband is now capable of speaking, albeit softly. "Heinz is doing well considering the circumstances. He can speak, but just barely. However, we understand each other without saying much," the lady explained.

"Heinz is the toughest guy out there! A fighter who never gives up. He's doing it for his kids, for me, and for all his fans," Kärsten-Hoenig gushed. She has two young sons with the actor.
Similarly, Kärsten-Hoenig shared this sentiment with the "Bild" newspaper. "Heinz is the strongest man in the world. He's a fighter who never gives up. For his kids, for me, and for all his fans," she said.
Kärsten-Hoenig expressed her gratitude for the support they've received, stating that it has boosted his morale. "Heinz feels the love from his family. It gives him strength. He's a fighter and we won't give up. No one who loves their children would ever give up. Heinz is the toughest man and I'm his fearless lioness," she added.

"We seized the chance, and it paid off," Kärsten-Hoenig remarked, referencing their ability to survive the ordeal. "Now, we look forward."
Meanwhile, Kärsten-Hoenig is using this experience to raise awareness about healthcare concerns. Following her experience collecting funds for her husband's treatment, she launched a petition for a citizens' insurance program. In her vision, everyone should have access to high-quality medical care, regardless of financial status, occupational standing, or social background.
Though Hoenig and Kärsten-Hoenig can now breathe a sigh of relief, there's a long road ahead before the actor makes a full comeback. When he's ready, he will undergo another surgery on his aorta due to a bacterial infection that has spread throughout the aorta.
