Performers - Heinz Hoenig is reportedly in good shape following esophageal surgery.

Actor Heinz Hoenig is bravely struggling through his health issues. He recently had his first significant operation - his esophagus was extracted via a complex process. This was just the initial step in the 72-year-old's challenging journey, as he still needs a major aorta operation. Nevertheless, his wife Annika is always by his side and shared their situation in a recent interview with Bild.

"Heinz is doing remarkable considering the circumstances," she remarked. Both the medical professionals and the entire family are delighted with the progress after the operation, according to the 39-year-old. "Due to the high risks, Heinz made it through the operation successfully" - all thanks to the "outstanding doctors".

Heinz Hoenig's lengthy recovery process

Hoenig is currently incapable of speaking, as he's still in intensive care. He is now learning to communicate through speech therapy. "Heinz can converse, albeit quietly at the moment," Annika revealed. This is understandable, given the intense surgery Hoenig, the "The Boot" star and most recently seen in a reality TV camp, underwent. His esophagus has been replaced with an artificial saliva outlet, and he's being fed through a tube.

The Hoenigs have a successful crowdfunding campaign to credit for making the operation viable. Since Hoenig doesn't have health insurance, his wife Annika initiated donations for her husband's life-saving surgeries. So far, they've accumulated 168,000 euros. Their goal is 500,000 euros. Afterwards, Hoenig will have to undergo a further operation on his aorta.

However, it may take a while before Hoenig has amassed the strength to handle such surgery. For now, their motto is: be patient and keep fighting on. This is already their new normal, as Annika explained: "My husband has taken the situation very well so far and has come to terms with it. He is extremely grateful to the doctors and medical staff and always remains positive. I'm truly impressed by him."
