Unlike many other performers, the British actor Sean Bean (65) went from theatre straight into films. However, it appears that with advancing age, the star is taking greater delight in appearing in television shows. In recent news, a great role has come his way -- given his recent 65th birthday, Bean is set to take on the role of Ronnie Phelan, the leader of a Liverpool gangster crew, in the BBC gangster series "This City Is Ours."

As revealed by the US industry site "Deadline," Bean will assume the part of Ronnie Phelan, the notorious leader of a Liverpool crime ring. What's more, the series is the work of "The Last Kingdom" creator Stephen Butchard and reportedly has managed to secure the same producers as "The Crown."

The BBC adds, "It's a pleasure to see the cameras rolling on 'This City is Ours' - with an outstanding cast that has brought Stephen Butchard's magnificent scripts to life even further."

A Remarkable Duo

Bean and Butchard have recently collaborated on the series "Shardlake," which debuted on Disney+ at the beginning of the month. Additionally, the BBC has multiple successful series formats with the thespian. In 2022, Bean bagged a BAFTA TV Award for his outstanding performance in the prison drama "Time."

In 2011, Sean Bean garnered significant attention for his role in the inaugural season of the smash hit show "Game of Thrones." His dynamic performance paved the way for him to become a household name in the film industry while he had previously faced off against James Bond ("GoldenEye") and Harrison Ford (81, "The Patriot"). Following his stint in Westeros, he went on to lead roles in "Legends" and "Snowpiercer."

Will Bean's character description in "This City Is Ours" and his penchant for captivating roles help us predict how many episodes he might appear in the crime drama? Unfortunately, an official start date for the program has yet to be revealed, so we'll have to be patient for now.
