Gabriel Kelly Wins as Dancing Star 2024 Champion
Gabriel Kelly entered the popular dance competition "Let's Dance" just to learn to dance for his girlfriend. Beware, though, as things got a little wild in this thrilling finale of an incredible 17th season!
"Let's Dance" can be compared to a pianopiece, where there are always highs and lows," said Gabriel Kelly, the dancing sensation of 2024. However, it quickly became evident that the 22-year-old, who initially participated solely to dance with his sweetheart, was a strong contender. Frankly, his depth was less observed - in fact, it was quite the opposite.
After 12 intense weeks, the season's first show feels like a distant memory for Kelly. The affable winner, characterized by his cool and grounded demeanor, expressed his gratitude for his "new family" he met along the journey. The bond he formed with Malika stands out as the greatest takeaway from the experience. He also mentions that, being a child of nomadic parents, he never considered making friends as a certainty - making his current case extra special.

During the finale, each finalist performed three dances - a jury dance, their favorite dance, and a freestyle. Let's break down their performances:
1) In the first dance, the jury wanted to see "the ability to do without" complicated lifts or other embellishments. Detlef Soost wowed the audience with a beautiful slow waltz. "Standard queen" Jana Wosnitza, on the other hand, bravely selected a quickstep. However, Gabriel Kelly and Malika Dzumaev won hearts with their "breathtaking samba", known to be "the best samba in 17 years," which took the judges and audience by storm. This effortless performance seemed effortless and natural.
2) Kelly and Dzumaev also shone in their favorite dance, a passionate tango to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. Despite Malika's dress accidentally catching her heel, their bond and performance on the dance floor were perfect.
3) But it was the freestyle dance that truly captivated the studio. Detlef Soost mastered the role of a "spectacular man in black." It really was a must-see performance. Jana Wosnitza, too, enraptured the audience by dancing to a Beyoncé track, completely enchanting television viewer throughout Germany.
There was a moment when viewers rallied around Vadim - especially when the host divulged that she danced with more intention for her partner rather than for herself. It would've been a dream scenario if the trophy could be divided, but there's only one winner. The couple's final act, essentially a Valentine's day gift, delighted onlookers. Motsi, the dance show's host, teared up as she witnessed Vadim's stunning choreography. It even pushed her to reconsider the single trophy situation. However, Kelly and Dzumaev were indeed the crowd favorites with their smooth Romeo and Juliet act. The judges commended them for their unique style, justifying their win.
"Let's Dance" might be just one show, per Motsi. But there are millions who are hooked and watching worldwide. In loving memory of Heidi, who passed away on finale day, let her final journey be a quickstep - "Don't worry, be happy."
For a guy who just wanted to dance for his girlfriend, Kelly really grew and evolved throughout this competition. It was a transformative journey.
