Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson goes on the attack

Once a wrestler, always a wrestler - and so "Fast & Furious" star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently announced his comeback to the ring. Now it's also clear who he wants to take on there: Roman Reigns, the undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back in the ring - and is challenging none other than Roman Reigns in his comeback to the wrestling league. The 51-year-old presented his metaphorically packaged announcement on Monday night in an astonishing appearance on the wrestling show "RAW" in San Diego. This can be seen, among other things, in a clip from the event posted on X by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organization.

"I'm going to go get something to eat," Johnson explained. "Should The Rock sit at a table? Or should The Rock sit at the bar? Or should The Rock sit at the head of the table?" he continued. Cheers erupted at the last sentence: The audience had obviously understood Johnson's allusion.

Roman Reigns also has the nickname "head of the table". The Florida-born ex-football star, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoa'i, is the current and undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Reigns has held the reigns for over 1200 days.

Showdown at "WrestleMania XL"?

The possible super fight between the two wrestling giants could take place at the "WrestleMania 40" show, also known as "WrestleMania XL". It is scheduled to take place on April 6 and 7. The event is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

A match between Johnson and Reigns has been under discussion for some time. The current Hollywood star returned to his roots in September by making his return to the WWE. At the "WWE Smackdown" event in Denver, the multiple WWE champion was loudly celebrated for his surprise appearance, according to US media reports.

At the time, Johnson also told ex-football star and wrestler Pat McAfee that there had already been talks about a possible superfight between him and Reigns. Originally, this was even supposed to take place at "WrestleMania 39" in April 2023. But that never happened. Speculation that Johnson would make his eagerly awaited ring comeback against Reigns in 2024 was all the more persistent.

Retirement from retirement

For over 20 years, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has focused primarily on his acting career. His films include "The Mummy Returns" (2001), "The Scorpion King" (2002) and "Welcome to the Jungle" (2003). He has also been an integral part of the "Fast & Furious" series for many years. He was last seen not only in the film "Black Adam" (2022), but also in "Fast & Furious 10" (2023). As an action star, Johnson is now one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.

However, the California native began his career in wrestling. And not without reason: Johnson comes from a real wrestling family, his father and grandfather were also active in the ring. His 22-year-old daughter Simone Johnson is also continuing the family tradition.

Johnson actually announced his complete retirement from wrestling in October 2019. At the time, he appeared on the "Smackdown" show to celebrate its 20th anniversary. But true to the motto "Never say never", he is now back in the ring.
