Demi Lovato attends Met Gala once more, following a difficult experience there eight years previously.
Following the 2016 event, Lovato uploaded an Instagram photo of herself next to Nicki Minaj looking grumpy. She stated that this picture "pretty much summed up my very first and likely last Met."
"It was terribly cliquey," she told Billboard in a 2018 interview. "I was so uncomfortable that I wished to drink."
She recalled feeling so uncomfortable that she left the event while still wearing "tons of diamonds" to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
"I connected more with the homeless people in that meeting who faced similar battles as me than the individuals at the Met Gala," she shared.
Lovato openly discussed her previous struggles with substance abuse and recovery.
In July 2018, Lovato was hospitalized due to a life-threatening overdose, just one month after divulging that she had relapsed when she released a song named "Sober." In her 2021 YouTube documentary "Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil," she disclosed that during her hospitalization, she endured multiple strokes and a heart attack.
Since then, the artist has maintained a healthier lifestyle, according to Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM radio show last year. "I'm working on sobriety and am in a more positive mindset," she declared.
"I wouldn't alter my path since I have no regrets," she added.
