Conversation surrounds the "She's All That"-inspired staircase moment in "Bridgerton".

Dear dear reader,

Streamers have had ample time to watch the initial four portions of the super thrilling third edition of Bridgerton. This season has shift its center on the like story between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton's (Luke Newton), who the cyber world has affectionately labeled #Polin.

Post hearing Colin utter negative comments about her following the conclusion of Season 2, Penelope chooses to find a spouse. She thinks it'll improve her odds of snagging a life partner, so she selects a makeover that begins with her attire. In the first episode, "Out of the Shadows," Penelope leaves her family's customary vivid citrus hues behind and lets her hair down. When she arrives at the gathering wearing an opulent emerald gown, everybody takes note of her as she strides down the stairs.

That specific scene in particular was motivate by the 1999 sentimental comedy, "She's All That." The film has a scene where geeky protagonist Laney Boggs (Rachael Leigh Cook) goes down the stairs to the song "Kiss Me" after a makeover that includes trading her glasses for heels she can scarcely walk in.

Showrunner Jess Brownell expressed to Final Draft's "Write On" podcast that incorporating a makeover scene in the season that pays tribute to rom-coms was vital.

"Rom-coms have informed my writing approach more than anything," Brownell said, also listing John Hughes films and "Can't Buy Me Love", featuring Patrick Dempsey.

However, the writing and production team also wanted to give a unique twist to the trope to dodge any potential issues.

"We talked a great deal in the [writer's] room about how the makeover trope could be problematic in lots of ways – implying that a woman should remove her glasses and let her hair down and she’ll instantly become much more attractive," Brownell explained.

For "Bridgerton", Brownell states they settled on making the makeover about Penelope's personal odyssey and "her necessity to find her self-assurance and embrace her authenticity."

The rom-com references didn't come to a stop at this point this season. Whereas the first two seasons presented the scam dating and foes to sweethearts tropes, this season is all about two individuals shifting from pals to lovers.

At one stage, Colin tries to assist Penelope's quest for a life partner by sharing his guidance, resulting in several amusing situations in which she fails to connect with probable suitors. Nonetheless, Penelope captures the attention of Lord Debling (Sam Phillips), creating a love triangle.

The production further unfurls its primary snobby person, Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen). Just like your typical rom-com antagonist, Cressida has been a competitor to other characters also searching for spouses. In Season 1, she threatened to recount a narrative about Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett that could have damaged both their reputations.

This season, onlookers catch a glimpse of a more humanized version of Cressida as she desperately seeks a spouse in her third season just like Penelope. If she doesn't locate a partner this year, her parents will find one for her.

"No mean girl emerges a mean girl. There's always a backstory. We come to realize that Cressida, in actuality, stems from a challenging home where her parents aren't very loving as either the Bridgertons or even the Featheringtons," Brownell added. "There is room for some refection and growth in her as well."

The first four episodes of Bridgerton Season 3 are now accessible to observe on Netflix. Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 launches June 13.
