Attorney for Nick Carter finds claims in 'Fallen Idols' series 'farcical'.

In "Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter," three women - Ashley Repp, Melissa Schuman Henschel, and Shannon "Shay" Ruth - detail alleged assaults from 2001 and 2003 that they previously sued Nick Carter for.

Aaron Carter, who was 34 when he died, is not included in these accusations.

Before the documentary's airing, Dale Hayes Jr., Nick Carter's lawyer, made a statement to CNN: "These are the same shocking accusations that prompted us to sue this group of conspirators."

The women filed three separate complaints between December 2022 and August 2023. Carter filed two counterclaims in 2023 and 2024, the first against Henschel and Ruth and the second against Repp.

"Those cases are navigating their way through the judicial process, and based on the initial court decisions and the overwhelming evidence, we are confident we will win and hold them accountable for spreading these fabrications," Hayes' statement said.

The first two episodes of "Fallen Idols" aired on Monday night and centered on Henschel's and Repp's stories, as well as the Carter brothers' difficult upbringing. The final two installments air on Tuesday night on ID and will be available on Max. Ruth's story is also included in the fourth episode. (CNN and ID, like Max, are divisions of Warner Bros. Discovery.)

Nick Carter refused to be interviewed by the filmmakers, as per the documentary.

The accusations

Henschel, a former pop singer with the group Dream, accused Nick Carter of using his "position, status, and power as a famous singer to gain entry, groom, manipulate, exploit, and sexually assault" her in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles last year, as per the "Fallen Idols" website.

In her lawsuit, Henschel claimed that the incident occurred in 2003 at Carter's house in Santa Monica, when she was 18. She alleged that Carter, who was 22 at the time, performed oral sex on her without her consent and forced her to perform a sex act before raping her. She stated she repeatedly told the singer that "she did not want to have sex."

Henschel initially raised these allegations in a 2017 blog post. Due to the expiration of the statute of limitations in 2013, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declared in a 2018 legal filing that they would not prosecute Carter for sexual assault.

In 2022, California passed the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, allowing adult survivors who meet certain criteria to file lawsuits in cases where the statute of limitations has lapsed. Henschel sued Carter in April 2023, according to online records. According to a copy of the amended complaint filed in October 2023 on the "Fallen Idols" website, Henschel sued Carter for sexual battery, sexual assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence.

Carter denied the allegations in a statement provided to CNN in 2017, saying, "Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally."

"This is the first time I've heard about these accusations, almost two decades later," he added. "It goes against my nature and everything I hold dear to cause someone discomfort or harm."

In the second episode of "Fallen Idols," Repp shares her story.

Repp's lawsuit alleging sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress was filed under the initials A.R. in August 2023 and stems from two alleged incidents on Nick Carter's boats in Marathon, Florida, in 2003, when Repp was 15 years old.

According to the complaint, Repp accuses Carter of giving her alcohol "such that she was inebriated at the time," knowing she was a minor, and engaging in sex acts with her "without her consent." Repp also claimed that during the second incident, he "encouraged and opened up" his three male friends on the boat to watch him "engaging in sexual intercourse" with her.

According to the lawsuit, Carter continued to have sex with Repp despite her repeated refusals and requests for him to stop. Repp also alleged in the lawsuit that she contracted a sexually transmitted disease after the incident.

Carter denied Repp's allegations in a countersuit filed in January, as per online records.

Ruth, who will be featured in "Fallen Idols" on Tuesday, sued Carter in December 2022 for sexual battery, accusing the singer of raping her on the Backstreet Boys' tour bus in 2001 in Tacoma, Washington, when she was 17 years old. Nick Carter did not participate in any interview with the documentary makers.

Carter rejected the accusations through a statement provided to CNN from his lawyer Michael Holtz, who perceived Ruth's allegations as "not only lacking legal legitimacy but also completely untrue." In 2023, he responded with a lawsuit against Ruth, Tyler Repp, and Jerome Schuman, Henschel's father.

In his January lawsuit, Carter alleges that the "lawsuits by Ruth and Repp are the apex of a five-year-long conspiracy orchestrated by the conspirators to harass, ridicule, and blackmail Carter," as indicated in a posted copy of the suit on the "Fallen Idols" website. "The campaign began at its inception, as Schuman published an obscene blog post in November 2017, misrepresenting that Ruth had been assaulted sexually by Carter in 2003," the counterclaim states.

CNN has attempted to connect with Henschel's, Ruth's, and Repp's attorneys, as well as representatives for Retrac Inc., operating as Kaotic Productions, which is also mentioned in Schuman's lawsuit.

The trials are still in progress.
