Actress Olivia Munn undergoes a hysterectomy procedure.
Not long ago, Olivia Munn divulged a secret that had been concealed: the American actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and has already undergone numerous operations. In her latest surgery, the 43-year-old will have her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries removed.
Olivia Munn, an American actress who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, underwent a lengthy surgery in April to remove her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. She divulged this information in Vogue. The procedure is described by Munn as the best course of action to cease her body's oestrogen production and prevent cancer from reoccurring.
Beforehand, Munn had been on the drug Lupron to curb oestrogen production in her body for several months. However, the side effects were reportedly "devastating" and left her motionless in bed. Munn, known for films like "Zoolander 2," "Iron Man 2," and "X-Men: Apocalypse," described how she "would wake up in the morning only to have to return back to bed almost immediately." Her two-year-old son Malcolm, whom she shares with her husband, a US comedian John Mulaney, prompted her to opt for surgery. "When they asked Malcolm, 'Where does Daddy work?' he would race to his desk. But as he described it, it also upset her since that's how he imagines his mother," Munn recalled.
Actress has eggs frozen
Munn's friends attempted to reassure her by stating that her two-year-old would not remember this time and she should not worry. "But my mind kept going back to, 'I'll miss out on all these things,'" Munn said. "It's his childhood, but it's my motherhood, and I wouldn't want to miss any if I can help it."
During the interview, Munn also revealed that she froze her eggs for the third time following her cancer diagnosis. She had done this previously at age 33 and 39. "John and I often discussed not being done expanding our family, though we weren't sure if I would have to face chemotherapy or radiation soon," Munn noted. As a result, the couple could conceivably have more offspring via a surrogate mother.
Olivia Munn only disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in April. In an Instagram post, she mentioned,"In February 2023, I took a genetic test where you're tested for 90 different cancer genes." She tested negative for all genes, but two months later, she was diagnosed with "aggressive, quickly progressing" cancer in both breasts. This led to four surgeries in a ten-month period: a double mastectomy, lymph node dissection, reconstructive surgery, and nipple retraction.
