La debolezza della domanda di auto elettriche costa posti di lavoro nello stabilimento VW
The shift towards electric mobility will lead to a reduction of around 1000 jobs at the VW plant in Zwickau by the end of 2025, as confirmed by a company spokesperson to MDR. These jobs are temporary contracts, which are unlikely to be renewed due to the current situation.
The reason for this is the weak demand for electric cars from the VW Group. Currently, there are approximately 9400 employees working at the plant, producing electric models for brands such as VW, Audi, and Cupra, as well as luxury bodywork for Bentley and Lamborghini.
Last year, VW had to reduce shifts at its pure electric car plant in Saxony due to weak sales. After the summer holidays, both production lines are set to operate on a two-shift schedule without night shifts, requiring fewer workers.
Contrary to expectations, the rise of electric mobility has resulted in downsizing at the VW plant in Zwickau, which is a significant production hub for electric models. However, in the production of cars with combustion engines, tens of thousands of jobs will disappear due to the shift towards electric vehicles.
At the end of last year, VW announced that they would not be renewing hundreds of temporary contracts at their pure electric car factory, as reported by MDR. At the plant's peak, there were around 10000 employees, including temporary workers.
The spokesperson indicated that over 1000 jobs are at risk due to the weak demand for electric cars from the VW Group in this country.
