Zverev's knee does not destroy his Olympic dream
Alexander Zverev exits Wimbledon with knee injury, concerns over Olympics as he might have to defend Paris Gold Medal.
Despite his knee injury, tennis player Alexander Zverev seems to be planning an Olympic start. His brother and manager Mischa Zverev gave reassurance after another examination. The status remains the same as what Zverev announced after his quarterfinal exit at Wimbledon, Mischa Zverev stated. "Hamburg is on the schedule", Mischa Zverev even added. The ATP tournament in Zverev's hometown is scheduled for the coming week. The Olympics in Paris begin on July 26.
After his five-set loss, Zverev reported that he had suffered a bone edema and a capsule tear. However, he intended to start and win in Paris, Zverev had said. The 27-year-old German slipped and overextended his left knee during his third-round match at Wimbledon. In the quarterfinals against American Taylor Fritz, he was visibly limited.
Mischa Zverev had not ruled out the possibility of the Olympics being threatened on Tuesday. However, there was a suspicion of something more serious, Mischa Zverev reported on streaming platform Amazon Prime. During a doctor's visit in London, approximately 40 milliliters of fluid and blood were removed from the swollen left knee on Tuesday.
His younger brother will therefore consult another doctor in his residence Monaco. "If it's a fracture in the bone or a tear or whatever, then you have to look at how long it takes. But then the Olympics could be in danger", Mischa Zverev said before giving the reassurance.
Despite the knee injury, Alexander Zverev expresses his ambition to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, given his previous gold medal victory in tennis. With some time for recovery and medical evaluations, Zverev's participation in the Paris Olympics remains uncertain.
