Zverev storms into the final at Hamburg's home tournament

Sovereign performance: Alexander Zverev reaches the final of the tennis tournament in Hamburg with a dominating win against Spanish player Pedro Martinez. The Olympic champion boosts his confidence for the Olympics in Paris - and is just one win away from his 23rd ATP title.

Tennis Olympic champion Alexander Zverev reached the final of the tournament in Hamburg once again in his home game. The title defender defeated the unseeded Spanish player Pedro Martinez 6:2, 6:4 and boosted his confidence for the Paris Summer Games. The injured and bandaged left knee caused him little trouble again, although he did not serve out during the changeovers.

In the fight for his second title win of the year, Zverev faces Arthur Fils (France/No. 5) on Sunday. Both have met twice before: Last year in the Hamburg semifinals and in June in the Halle quarterfinals, the German won both times.

Young final opponent Fils awaits

Under a brilliant blue sky at Rothenbaum, Zverev dominated from the start with powerful serves and dominant play from the baseline. A break to lead 2:1 was the early reward, and at 4:2 he took Martinez's serve back again and secured the first set in just 29 minutes with an ace.

Zverev began the second set with another break, and despite increasing resistance, he brought the match home safely. After 1 hour and 14 minutes, Zverev converted his second match point.

His opponent Fils had surprised earlier when he eliminated the third-seeded Argentine Sebastian Baez easily with 6:2, 6:2. For the 20-year-old, it will be only his third final on the ATP Tour, his only title to date was in May 2023 at his home tournament in Lyon.

Alexander Zverev's impressive tennis skills were on display once again in Hamburg, as he reached the final of the tournament for the second time this year. Despite a bandaged left knee, Zverev dominated his match against Pedro Martinez, securing a spot in the final and increasing his confidence ahead of the Olympics in Paris.

Before facing Zverev in the final, Fils, the 20-year-old French player, had an impressive victory against Sebastian Baez, clinching his spot in the final with ease. With just one ATP title under his belt from his home tournament in Lyon, Fils will be looking to make a significant impact in the tennis world against the experienced and accomplished Zverev.
