Zverev in group stage of ATP Finals against Alcaraz
Alexander Zverev will play Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, among others, in the group stage of the ATP Finals. This was the result of the draw in Turin.
The Olympic tennis champion's other opponents are the two Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev. In the other preliminary round group, world number one Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune, who is coached by Boris Becker, will meet.
The tournament for the best eight players of the season begins on Sunday. The top two players in the two preliminary round groups qualify for the semi-finals.
"It means a lot to me"
"It means a lot to me to be back at the ATP Finals," said Zverev. The Hamburg-born player has already won the annual event twice in his career, most recently in the 2021 final against Medvedev.
Following his complicated foot injury, it took Zverev a while to get back into form at the start of the year. However, with good performances from the middle of the year, he still managed to make it to Turin. Among other things, he won the ATP tournament in his home town of Hamburg. Recently, however, Zverev's performances have again been inconsistent, which is why the 26-year-old is only starting as an outsider.
Alexander Zverev will face Carlos Alcaraz in a tennis match during the ATP Finals group stage, as both players aim to advance to the semi-finals. Alexander Zverev expressed his excitement to be competing in the ATP Finals once again, having previously won the event twice, including against Daniil Medvedev in 2021.
