Youth soccer player from FC Metz charged after punch
After the final whistle, there is a violent altercation between two teams at a youth tournament in Frankfurt am Main. One player hits his opponent so hard that he dies of brain injuries shortly afterwards. The case now goes to court.
More than six months after a fatal brawl at a youth football tournament in Frankfurt am Main, the public prosecutor's office has brought charges against a 17-year-old from the French club FC Metz. The teenager is accused of two counts of assault, one of which resulted in death, according to senior public prosecutor Diana Reichmann.
The teenager is said to have injured a 15-year-old so severely that he died from his brain injuries. The altercation took place during a youth tournament on Whitsunday (May 28) this year on a sports field in Frankfurt-Eckenheim.
According to the indictment, a brawl broke out on the pitch between players from FC Metz and JFC Berlin after the final whistle. Initially, the accused allegedly punched another player. A short time later, according to the indictment, he punched the 15-year-old in the neck, injuring an artery, among other things.
One day later, the victim's brain death was diagnosed in hospital. The alleged batterer was already in custody at the time. According to Reichmann, the victim's death was due to negligence on the part of the attacker. The trial will be heard before one of the juvenile criminal chambers of the Frankfurt Regional Court. Trial dates have not yet been set.
