Muriel Furrer has tragically passed away. At the tender age of 18, the talented Swiss cyclist lost her life after suffering injuries during a crash at a hospital, as announced by the UCI and organizers of the World Championships in Zurich. Her cause of demise continues to remain a mystery.

The teenager succumbed to her injuries, acquired during a crash on the race day, on Thursday. The heartbreaking news was confirmed at the University Hospital of Zurich.

"The international cycling community mourns the loss of a promising rider with a bright future," expressed the UCI in a statement, extending their deepest condolences to Furrer's family. They have requested privacy during this trying time. A press conference is scheduled for 5 PM today.

Furrer's accident happened during the Junior Women's road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Zurich. The circumstances surrounding her crash are under investigation. The championships proceed today with the U23 Men's race.
