Wunderkind "Wemby" can still win after all

The German world champions do not have a good night in the NBA. However, the Orlando Magic concede an expected defeat in Boston. The defeat of Dennis Schröder and his Raptors was even more bitter. Meanwhile, the Spurs were finally able to celebrate after a long series without a win.

The German basketball world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner clearly missed out on a big win with Orlando Magic in the NBA. In the top game of the Eastern Conference, the team from Florida lost 111:128 at the Boston Celtics. Franz Wagner contributed 17 points, while his brother Moritz once again came off the bench and remained pale with just two points.

Orlando (16:8 wins) thus initially lost second place in the East, with leaders Boston (19:5) now ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers (17:7 each). "We have to carry on as before, there will always be evenings like this," said Franz Wagner, "we just have to draw the right conclusions." The task at the Celtics was one of the toughest the NBA has to offer. Boston has won each of its 13 home games so far this season, and the Wagners will have to face Orlando there again on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs, led by the exceptional French talent Victor Wembanyama, finally stopped their losing streak, which had already reached record proportions for the franchise. After 18 defeats, the Spurs won 129:115 against the Los Angeles Lakers, which was also Wembanyama's first duel with superstar LeBron James. The Frenchman notched up a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, and James also managed a double-double with 23 points and 14 assists.

Meanwhile, things continue to go up and down for Dennis Schröder with the Toronto Raptors. The captain of the world champion team lost with his team against the Atlanta Hawks with 104:125, Schröder scored six points and had four assists. Toronto had won the same duel on Wednesday (135:128). The Raptors are still not getting any consistency in their own performances, with two wins in a row last coming in November. The defeat was particularly painful because Atlanta is a direct competitor in the battle for the play-offs. The Hawks (10-14) are currently tenth in the Eastern Conference and in last place for the play-in tournament, with the Raptors (10-15) in eleventh.
