Wrong decision slows Bayern women down after lightning start
FC Bayern Munich got off to a perfect start in the Champions League match against Ajax Amsterdam, but then a wrong decision robbed the leaders of the women's Bundesliga of their momentum. In the end, they lost an unnecessary point.
FC Bayern Munich's women's soccer team dropped points on their hoped-for path to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The German champions were held to a 1:1 (1:1) draw against Ajax Amsterdam in their third group game. National striker Lea Schüller had already put the hosts ahead in the 2nd minute at the Bayern Campus. Chasity Grant's equalizer in the 38th minute visibly rattled the Munich side.
Coach Alexander Straus' team had drawn 2-2 with AS Roma in the opener and then won 1-0 at Paris Saint-Germain. The Norwegian not only had to do without Klara Bühl (muscle ligament), but also had to replace Magdalena Eriksson after just over 20 minutes due to injury.
Annoying for the Bayern women: A goal by Linda Dallmann was wrongly disallowed due to an alleged offside by Katharina Naschenweng (27') - there is no video evidence in the women's game. Schüller had already had a great chance to add to her tally in the opening stages - but the striker missed from ten meters out after a corner kick.
England's European champion Georgia Stanway missed a great chance to take the lead in the second half in front of 2,500 spectators. FC Bayern did not really get into the pressing game after the break, but then put on increasing pressure. Ajax goalkeeper Regina van Ejik just managed to turn a powerful shot from Schüller onto the crossbar. The return match in the Netherlands is next Wednesday. Eintracht Frankfurt's women had lost 1-0 at Benfica Lisbon the day before. VfL Wolfsburg had missed out on the group stage.

The wrongly disallowed goal by Dallmann proved to be a significant setback for the bavaria-women, as it halted their promising attacking momentum. Despite this, they continued to push for victory, with Schüller coming close on multiple occasions. Regrettably, their efforts were not rewarded, resulting in a draw that could potentially impact their chances of advancing in the Champions League. None of the video review technology was utilized to overturn the controversial offside call, which further underscored the difference between men's and women's football in terms of technology support.
