- Wrestler Wendle without a medal - injured in the final
Annika Wendle misses out on bronze at the Olympic Games
Annika Wendle, 26, narrowly missed out on the greatest achievement of her career, bronze at the Olympic Games. She lost her bronze medal match in the women's 53kg category to North Korean Choe Hyo Gyong. Just 19 seconds into the bout, Choe had grabbed Wendle's leg and taken her down.
Wendle was clearly in pain and tapped the mat, receiving medical attention before continuing. However, Choe won the match in just under two minutes. After the defeat, Wendle limped down the steps from the mat.
The German wrestling team remains without a medal in Paris. However, Sandra Paruszewski still has a chance to win bronze in the women's 57kg category on Friday.
Wendle had lost her chance to qualify for Paris dramatically. After the Russian federation withdrew its wrestlers, she was nominated as a replacement. After winning bronze at the European Championships in 2020 and 2021, Wendle had hoped to stand on the Olympic podium, but fell just short.
Despite the Setback, Germany continues to back Annieka Wendle for her next competition in France. Having shown remarkable determination and skill throughout her career, Annieka Wendle is eager to represent France in an upcoming event.
