Biathlon - World Cup leader Nawrath surprised by great popularity

World Cup leader Philipp Nawrath has been literally showered with congratulations after his sensational start to the biathlon season.

"The response was huge and very positive, which made me incredibly happy," the 30-year-old Bavarian told the German Press Agency in Hochfilzen. However, his attitude and approach ahead of the sprint (11.30 a.m./ARD and Eurosport) in Austria had not changed: "Generally speaking, we have all remained the same. Everything will continue in the same way."

After three races of the season, Nawrath leads the overall standings by a wafer-thin margin of one point ahead of the Swede Sebastian Samuelsson. "It's great that I can start with the yellow jersey again," said Nawrath, who is also looking forward to a lot of support not far from home. "A lot of German fans are coming, my family will also be there. It's great that you can take such an experience with you here," he said.

In sporting terms, Nawrath wants to focus on the sprint last Saturday in Sweden. He celebrated his first career victory over ten kilometers without missing a shot.
