Women's 3x3 basketball team on the verge of Olympic semifinals

The German women's 3x3 basketball team continues its strong performance at the Summer Games. They are unstoppable against China and France, securing a direct spot in the semifinals. Against the group's last-placed team, France, the team initially showed some weaknesses in their finishing.

The German women's 3x3 basketball team is on the verge of direct qualification to the semifinals in their Olympic debut. With a 14:13 win against France, the team secured their fifth win in six group games, leading the preliminary round table. A sixth win against Spain on Saturday (6 PM) would guarantee their spot in the semifinals. The team had already secured their spot in the play-in round after their 18:15 win against China earlier in the day.

The team's alarm went off at 6 AM, with Svenja Brunckhorst, Sonja Greinacher, Elisa Mevius, and Marie Reichert ready to go. Against China, the team showed great decision-making and power in the final stretch. Brunckhorst explained, "We make excellent decisions at the end, and we still have more power than other teams."

Loud Crowd against France

Against the group's last-placed team, France, the German team initially showed some weaknesses in their finishing, appearing nervous in front of the loud crowd. However, Greinacher secured the narrow win with a late shot.

The German team had already started the tournament strongly with wins against the favorites from the USA and Canada. The top two teams in the group of eight advance directly to the semifinals, while the teams ranked third to sixth compete in a play-in round for the remaining two spots.

The modified form of streetball has gained popularity in recent years and was included in the Olympic program for the first time in 2021 in Tokyo. German teams were not present at the time, with the women's title going to the USA. Games are played on a single hoop, with three players from each team of four on the court at a time.

The German women's 3x3 basketball team is eagerly looking forward to competing in the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, aiming to improve upon their performance from the previous Olympics. In their previous outing in Tokyo, they missed out on a medal, but their strong performance in Tokyo and now at these Summer Games is promising for the future.

With their victories against formidable opponents like the USA and Canada, and their current form, the German team is determined to make an impact in Paris, hoping to secure a spot in the semifinals once again. Their unwavering determination and excellent teamwork have seen them through tough matches and they will look to continue this form in Paris.
