Mafia-inspired crime drama - "Within the intricate network of the Camorra"

In 2021, over four million viewers tuned in to watch Tobias Moretti's character, a successful winemaker from South Tyrol, being hunted down for his violent past in Southern Italy. Now, a new installment of the ZDF two-part series is set to air: "The Hunted - In the Net of the Camorra" will debut on Monday at 8:15 pm on ZDF.

Matteo DeCanin (Tobias Moretti) is living on a tiny island in Italian Liguria. After joining a witness protection program, he seeks to escape his Mafia past by testifying against his old clan. New identities are given to him and his daughter Laura (Antonia Moretti). But when the latter suddenly calls her friend Chiara and then flees with a boat in a panic, she puts her father, Chiara, and herself in grave danger. Erlacher (Harald Windisch), a Carabinieri officer, tracks their whereabouts while the Mafia relies on corrupt police officers and bodyguards to find them. It all eventually leads to Laura being snatched by the unruly and pregnant matriarch Antonia Romano (Gerti Drassl).

While Antonia Moretti, the real-life daughter of the main actor, plays a larger role as Laura in this story by author Stefan Brunner than in previous versions, Harald Windisch returns as the doomed cop Erlacher. Also new to the cast is Gerti Drassl, who takes on the role of the Mafia matriarch.

Tobias Moretti (64, "The House", "Your Honor") coolly plays the character of the former Mafia killer, with just a few words exchanged between him and the characters. His character's composure is necessary, as he has to kill many people throughout the film. Antonia Morretti (25, "Land Crime - The Dead in the Gorge"), on the other hand, delivers a noteworthy performance as a brave and determined young woman. Only Ursina Lardi (Matteo's wife Stefania) from the previous cast is absent - she perishes in a car explosion that she has no hope of surviving.

This time, director Andreas Prochaska was replaced by Rick Ostermann (45, "2 Friends", "The House"). Ostermann manages the film's pace and tension effectively, hinting at a potential continuation. By the - somewhat unbelievable - end, only one person is left standing - and she's now seeking vengeance.
