Riding a Bicycle - Within just eight seconds, Roglic claims victory at the Dauphiné.

Primoz Roglic of the German team Bora-hansgrohe claims the win in the Critérium du Dauphine, serving as a practice run for the Tour de France, for the second time.

The Slovenian cyclist faced challenges during the final ascent towards Plateau des Glières, barely securing a sixth-place finish, enough for the title. He ultimately crossed the finish line eight seconds ahead of the American contender Matteo Jorgensen.

Prior to this hurdle, Roglic had dominated the two preceding mountain stages, but a sudden lack of strength five kilometers before the Plateau caused some alarm. Rodriguez from Spain and Canadian Derek Gee capitalized on Roglic's momentary setback, claiming the first and second spots respectively.

After securing his second victory in the race of 2022, Roglic expressed his surprise. "Winning the Dauphine with all that happened earlier is a bit crazy," he commented. For Roglic, monitoring the time gap between him and Jorgensen was always imperative. "I did struggle over the last three days. There's still work to be done. The Dauphine is different from the Tour. You don't win every day. So I want to relish this moment."

Evenepoel's mountain dilemma

Earlier in April, Roglic suffered a significant blow during the Basque Country Tour, resulting in a crash that also affected Tour title holder Jonas Vingegaard and second-placed world champion Remco Evenepoel. Vingegaard has not raced since then, and his participation in the Tour remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Evenepoel managed to clinch the seventh spot at the Dauphine, though he suffered setbacks in the mountainous stages.

This win from Roglic places him alongside his compatriot Tadej Pogacar as one of the primary contenders for the general classification win at the Tour. Pogacar had won the Giro d'Italia in May and aims to be the first professional since Marco Pantani in 1998 to achieve the double.
