Cloud Hegenbarth and Leo Reisinger - With 'Toni, male, midwife', it's a wrap

After the tenth film, it's over: The popular ARD series "Toni, male, Midwife" ends after the broadcast of two new last episodes in August. Fans of the TV series, which has been aired on "Endlich Freitag im Ersten" since 2019, will have to say goodbye to Wolke Hegenbarth (44) as Dr. Luise Fuchs and Leo Reisinger (46) as midwife Toni Hasler.

What's happening in the last two episodes

Episode nine will be broadcast on Friday, August 9, at 8:15 pm on the First. In the penultimate "Toni, male, Midwife" episode with the title "Baby in a Basket," a baby is abandoned outside the practice. While Luise and her partner Sami (Marcel Mohab, 44) begin to take care of the foundling, Leo wants to find the unknown mother.

Episode ten of "Toni, male, Midwife" will be broadcast a week later on August 16. In "The Luck of Others," Leo is surprised in the delivery room by his ex-wife Hanna (Kathrin von Steinburg, 47) and her new husband Alex (Martin Bretschneider, 49) - with the heavily pregnant housekeeper Natascha (Katja Hutko, 30) in tow. Meanwhile, Luise tries to save her relationship with Sami.

In the ARD Mediathek, both episodes are already available for viewing: Episode nine from August 7, Episode ten from August 14 as a stream.

Leo Reisinger looks forward to "new doors"

Both for Wolke Hegenbarth and her series colleague Leo Reisinger, this collaboration comes to an end. "The feedback, especially from men who find the films authentic and cool, has been consistently positive. That was important to me because I can't genetically insert myself as a man during childbirth," Reisinger looks back.

He will always remember the excellent collaboration with the team and especially the friendships that arose from it. "Our audience certainly deserved an ending film, but I see it positively that the series ends, because new doors are opening."

Wolke Hegenbarth looks back on "unforgettable time"

Hegenbarth also looks back fondly on the filming days for "Toni, male, Midwife": "I have to say that I really liked Luise as a woman who doesn't want to be a 'pleaser' or be liked." Friendships with her colleagues were also formed: "It was a pleasure to play with them and a gift to understand each other so well outside of the scenes." This time will always have a special place in her heart. "This time will be unforgettable, of course, thanks to Ava's birth."

In 2019, during her pregnancy with her first child with her partner Oliver Vaid, Wolke Hegenbarth stood before the camera for episodes three and four of the ARD series and also played a pregnant Luise in front of the camera. "In essence, it's a luxury to have a real pregnant woman on set because even the best artificial baby belly isn't as real as a real one," she said to the news agency spot on news in an interview on her last filming day before the maternity leave.

At the beginning of September 2019, their common child was born. Episodes three and four of the series were finally aired in April 2020. Episode five and six followed in October 2021, episode seven and eight in March 2023.
