Will the German national team stifle the 200,000 Scottish fans today?
Germany's football national team is Ready to kick off the Home-European championship: The team aims to generate intense excitement back home and not at the hands of Scotland. This excitement should not be at the hands of Scotland. Have you already found out where the EM will be broadcast on TV today and why this game is significant?
The opening match of the European championship between Germany and Scotland will be aired on MagentaTV and ZDF.
For Germany's national team, playing against Scotland is their first crucial game since the WM fiasco in late 2022, when a 4:2 victory over Costa Rica meant elimination in the group stage. Coach Hansi Flick had kept Havertz and Füllkrug together on the field until the end of the game- and it paid off: Havertz scored twice, while Füllkrug notched the final goal. Following suit, the team's new coach Julian Nagelsmann has made a similar decision: Havertz will play from the start, while Füllkrug, the surprise star of the WM 2022, will begin on the bench.
Against Scotland, whose main striker Lyndon Dykes sustained an injury just before the start of the EM and will be absent for the entire tournament, the German team needs to develop quick tactics against a well-organized defense. Coach Steve Clarke, a long-time assistant of renowned manager Jose Mourinho, has given his team a strategic framework, allowing them to give opponents with superior individual talent a tough time. During the group phase, the team managed to surpass powerhouse Norway, whose star forward Erling Haaland, was left in the dust.
The EM opener is guaranteed to be historic, no matter what: Julian Nagelsmann will become the youngest Bundestrainer to ever head a German football national team at a tournament, currently 36 years old- and just two years older than his key player Toni Kroos. The eleven players Nagelsmann likely has in mind for the game against the Scots could result in the oldest team since the EM 2000: This includes Manuel Neuer (38), captain Ilkay Gündogan (33), Kroos (34), defensive mainstay Antonio Rüdiger (31), and others, who would set the age record.
