In 2024, - Widow of Beckenbauer carries European Championship trophy into Munich Arena
On Friday, during the European Championship's opening ceremony, Heidi Beckenbauer - wife of the late Franz Beckenbauer - will present the trophy. Joining her will be Jürgen Klinsmann and Bernd Dietz. The Ippen Media Group broke the news on Tuesday. Klinsmann and Dietz were team captains when Germany won the European Championship in 1996 and 1980, respectively. While Beckenbauer himself was the team manager when Germany claimed their first European Championship win in 1972.
Honouring the Legendary Beckenbauer
Franz Beckenbauer's death on January 7th, following a prolonged and challenging illness, was tragic news for the world of German football. Beckenbauer was a true football legend. Alongside FC Bayern, he attained great success in the 1970s. As captain, he led the national team to triumph in the 1972 European Championships and the 1974 World Cup. In 1990, he was named as their coach, fetched a World Cup again. Additionally, he played a crucial role in organizing the 2006 World Cup. Unfortunately, his accomplishments were overshadowed by allegations of illegal payments connected to the awarding of the World Cup to Germany, which to this day remain unresolved.
