Formula 1 - Where is Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz headed?
The Spaniard Carlos Sainz is still pondering his future in Formula 1. "My future is still being discussed and meticulously analyzed. There are weekly changes in every team that I observe. I will continue to give myself time to think about it", Sainz said on the sidelines of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. He cannot yet say whether there will be anything concrete for himself before or after the Formula 1 summer break. The motor racing king class will not return to Zandvoort until the end of August.
At the same time, Sainz took a break. "A sabbatical is not even in my head", he made clear in reference to the next season. "I'd rather go to a team from the midfield and help it find a way."
Sainz joined Ferrari as Sebastian Vettel's successor for the 2021 season. The three-time Grand Prix winner must leave the Italians at the end of this year to make way for Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes.
Audi, Williams, or Alpine?
The 29-year-old is said to have several options for the next season, but has been wrestling with a decision for months. Sainz could be teammates with Nico Hülkenberg at Sauber in 2025, which starts as Audi's works team from 2026. Then there are also Alpine and Williams as potential destinations. However, Sauber, Williams, and Alpine currently occupy the last three places in the Constructors' Championship.
"My best option for next year would be a car with which I can win the World Championship. The likelihood of that is low, but that was always my goal", Sainz admitted. "If that doesn't happen, I will decide on what is best for my near future."
- Despite considering various options, such as Audi, Williams, or Alpine, Carlos Sainz is seeking a team with a higher chance of winning the World Championship for his immediate future in Formula 1.
- Following his departure from Ferrari at the end of this year, Lewis Hamilton is set to take over from Sebastian Vettel at the Italian team, with Sainz required to find a new team for the 2023 season.
- The Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps provided an opportunity for Sainz to reflect on his Formula 1 future, as he ponders potential moves to Sauber, Williams, or Alpine for the next season.
- Having joined Ferrari in 2021, Carlos Sainz has experienced success as a Formula 1 driver, but his future in the sport remains uncertain as he contemplates his options ahead of the 2023 season.
- As the Formula 1 community awaits Sainz's decision, there is growing speculation that he could be seeking to regain his former form at a mid-tier team like Williams or Alpine, rather than joining a top-tier team like Audi or Ferrari.
- In a nod to his passion for motorsport, Sainz also expressed his enthusiasm for racing games, acknowledging that he enjoys playing Formula 1 simulations created by companies like Williams Electronics Games in his spare time.
