Where can one see the Olympic start?
Two days before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, athletes in football and rugby begin their medal fights. The earliest start is in football and rugby. And with that, the TV and livestream broadcasts also begin.
The Olympic Games will be officially opened on Friday with the Opening Ceremony on the Seine. However, for some athletes and athletes, it's already serious business two days before - on this Wednesday.
Football at the Olympics
The footballers give a somewhat clandestine start to the Olympic Games. The matches begin on July 24 at 3 pm CEST with Argentina against Morocco and Uzbekistan against Spain, the team that won silver at Tokyo 2021. Unlike the women, the men's teams at the Olympics are not the same as those that have just played the European Championship or the Copa America. Instead, the players must be under 23 years old, with a maximum of three older athletes. The teams at the Olympics are therefore not the same as those that have recently competed in major tournaments.
Further football matches on Wednesday:
3 pm: Egypt - Dominican Republic and Guinea - New Zealand
5 pm: Japan - Paraguay and Iraq - Ukraine
7 pm: Mali - Israel and France - USA
7er-Rugby at the Olympics
Seven-a-side rugby also gets underway. This sport is the first to crown an Olympic champion, as the final will take place on Saturday, July 27. But going back to Wednesday: Only half an hour after the footballers start, their tournament also begins. The men have two games a day. The Australians kick off against Samoa at 3:30 pm.
Matches in rugby on Wednesday:
4 pm: Argentina - Kenya
4:30 pm: France - USA
5 pm: Fiji - Uruguay
5:30 pm: Ireland - South Africa
6 pm: New Zealand - Japan
7 pm: Australia - Kenya
7:30 pm: Argentina - Samoa
8 pm: France - Uruguay
